CANNING, Oct. 2-A very pretty wedding was solemnized at St. James Anglican Church. Kentville, Monday afternoon at 3 o’clock, when Ellen Watt Murdock, of Canning, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John W. Murdock, of Ayr, Scotland, was united in. marriage to John Wallace Smith, son of Mrs. W. D. F. Smith and the late Mr. Smith, of Canning. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Mr. Thompson. The bride, becomingly attired in blue velvet with matching turban and navy accessories, with a corsage of Talisman roses, was given in marriage by Mrs. John M. Sanford, of Canning. She was attended by Mrs. Edward Smith of Starr’s Point, while the groom was supported by his brother, Fred, of Middleton. After a motor trip through the province they will reside at Kentville, where Mr. Smith is an employee of the Kentville Hardware store.

John Wallace Smith ? 84, of Kentville, formerly of Bridgewater, died Monday, December 24, 2001 in Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Canning, Kings County, he was a son of the late William and Maude (Barkhouse) Smith. He was a retired locksmith. He was a veteran of the Second World War, serving with the Canadian Army. He was a former deputy chief of the Bridgewater Fire Department, and was a member of the Acacia Masonic Lodge No. 39, Bridgewater, the Bridgewater Kawanis Club, the Royal Canadian Legion, Bridgewater, the Bridgewater Kinsman Club and the Bridgewater Curling Club. He was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Kings Branch No. 6, Kentville and a member of St. James Anglican Church, Kentville. He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth (Mrs. Frank Miller), Sidney, British Columbia; a granddaughter, Cindy; a great granddaughter, Kaitlin Rae; a close friend, Robert Nichols. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Ellen Murdoch, brothers, Frederick, Edward, Seldon, Donald, Robert, Archibald and Ralph; sisters, Marion and Teresa. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Visitation will be held From 7?9 p.m. Saturday, December 29, 2001, with Royal Canadian Legion Service to be held at 7.00 p.m. followed by a Masonic Service at 8:00 p.m. in the W.C. Hiltz Funeral Parlour, Kentville. Funeral service will be held at 2.30 p.m. Sunday, December 30,2001 in the W.C. Hiltz Funeral Parlour, Kentville, Canon S.J.P. Davies officiating. Burial will take place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill, Kings County. Donations in memory may be made to the Valley Regional Hospital Foundation.

She was a member of ?St. James Anglican Church, Ladies After-noon on GuiId and Kentville New Horizons Group. She is survived by her husband, ?john, a daughter Elizabeth Jean (Mrs. Frank Miller) Sidney, B.C.; two sisters, Margaret, Preswick, Scotland; Janet (Mrs. John Spinney), Saint John, N.B.; James, ayre, Scotland, Hugh , Drongan Scotland; a granddaughter, Cindy. She was predeceased by a sister, Mary; a brother; William. The body Is In W. C. Hiltz Funeral Home, Kentville, visiting 2?4, 7?9 p.m. today, where funeral will be 2,p.m. Wednesday, Canon S. J. P. Davies officiating. Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery. Donations to. Valley Regional Hospital Foundation .
