Smith, Edward Manning – 85, of Nictaux, died January 10, 2001, at Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Canning, he was the son of the late William and Maude (Barkhouse) Smith. He was a farmer and carpenter. He was a former member of the Nictaux Volunteer Fire Department and Busy Bee Seniors, Torbrook Mines. He was a member of High Tide Drifters, Family Campers and RVer’s. Surviving are his wife, the former Madeline Schofield-England; daughters, June (Eero) Halinen, South RIver, Ont.; Ellen “Peggy” (Albert) Shaffner, South Williamston; Carol (Wayne) Marshall, Nictaux West; Doris Chipman, Bridgewater; Audrey Pearle, Windsor; Daughter-in-law, Theresa Grandy, Bridgewater; Step-daughter, Patricia (Clarence “Jr.”) Greene, Nictaux; Step-sons, Victor (Fran) England, New Market, Ont; Larry (Jenny) England, Burke Falls, Ont.; Dennis (Lena) England, Orillia, Ont.; Paul (Jacqueline) England, Caledon, Ont.; brother John, Kentville; fourteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and ten step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Ellen Morine; son, Edward Bruce; grandson Dwayne Marshall; son-in-law, Robie Chipman; sisters, Theresa and Marion; brothers, Donald, Robert, Seldon “Pete”, Ralph, Archie and Fred. Visiting 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday at the Warren T. Roop Funeral Home, Middleton. Funeral service 2 p.m. Sunday at the Nictaux United Baptist Church, Rev. Bill McLeod officiating. Burial in Pine Grove Cemetery, Middleton. Family flowers only. Donations to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
